Paid or unpaid, carers deserve respect.

It’s high time that unpaid carers get the respect they deserve.

Carers Week ‘Putting Carers on the Map’ from the 10th to the 16th of June. As a social care provider, we realise how much effort goes into supporting our clients to truly thrive.

Carers are unpaid, voluntary helpers that care for family or friends in their own personal time.

Paid or not, carers deserve the utmost respect. For an idea of what our Support Workers do here at Amore Group, here is Martin Rowson’s story:

“Working at Amore has been brilliant. At the end of the day, you need to treat people like you want to be treated.

I love working with our clients and I always try to go the extra mile. Most recently, I took the client I am supporting to the airport, we also went cycling, and did some shopping together in Speke. The support workers here really make the effort to get to know who they care for, learning what they like and taking them out to activities. Dan and Mick are great with our client and are good to be around. It’s nice to be surrounded by people who really care.

Now I’ll tell you the most rewarding thing… me and the client were out and about, on a trip, and he patted my back, telling me how much he appreciated me being there.

It’s this sort of thing that makes my day. I love my job and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.”

We couldn’t wait to shine the spotlight on one of our Support Workers, but we realise that so many people with caring responsibilities are not paid for their work.

Carers really are the unsung heroes of our society. We know the amazing work that our workers do, carefully considering each person’s individual clinical, behavioural, or additional needs, as well as their hobbies while taking them out on regular trips. Unpaid carers do the same, without the compensation or equal recognition.

We recognise their struggle, their achievements, and their right to be respected. If you or a loved one has unpaid caring responsibilities, contact Carers UK for advice and guidance about accessing the support you’re entitled to.
